Empowering Indigenous Voices in Sports: The Role of VACCHO as a Proud Sponsor of NISS

At the National Indigenous Sports Foundation (NISF), we believe in the transformative power of sports for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. As hosts of the National Indigenous Sport Summit (NISS), we are thrilled to have the support of the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO), a peak body dedicated to enhancing the health and wellbeing of Indigenous peoples in Victoria.

VACCHO is the governing body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing in Victoria with a membership of 33 Community-controlled organisations. Their role is to support their Members and the wider Aboriginal health and wellbeing sector to be self-determining local centres that provide culturally safe wrap-around services from pre-birth to the Dreaming.  We do this through health and wellbeing advocacy, network building and workforce development – and by partnering with government and mainstream health organisations.

VACCHO's vision is for Culture, Community and Country to be embedded and respected in all healthcare settings – and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to have equitable health access and outcomes.

VACCHO recognises the role that sport plays in our Mob's physical and mental health and wellbeing - not just for the individual but for Community more broadly. Sport is more than just a game to Mob - it's a way to gather, to connect, to improve our health and wellbeing and be proud of our Deadly talent, skills, and ability.

We are proud to have VACCHO as a sponsor of the NISS event and are grateful for their contributions to amplifying the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in sports, while creating opportunities for communities to engage and reap the health and well-being benefits that sports provide.
