The National Indigenous Sports Foundation (NISF) will host the 2nd National Indigenous Sport Summit on Friday, 15 November 2024, at Pullman Melbourne on the Park. This year's Summit, themed "Enough is Enough!", aims to tackle pressing issues facing First Nations people in the realm of sport. Despite their significant contributions at all levels, Indigenous Australians often face barriers and a lack of recognition in the sporting landscape.
The Summit will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders including political and sporting leaders, First Nations representatives, policymakers, and practitioners. The focus will be on identifying successful strategies and future pathways to enhance opportunities for Indigenous individuals within the sport ecosystem. This follow-up to the inaugural National Indigenous Sport Summit, held seven years ago, will assess progress and continue the dialogue on improving access and enjoyment in sports for First Nations people.
Key topics on the agenda include:
Racism Against First Nations Peoples: Addressing the personal impacts of racism experienced at every level of sport and exploring strategies for moving forward.
Challenges Confronting Indigenous Sport: Reviewing progress since the 2013 Commonwealth Government Parliamentary Review, analyzing barriers to participation, and discussing the lack of access to funding.
Success Stories: Showcasing initiatives and programs that have achieved lasting success.
Proposing Solutions: Developing actionable solutions to be considered for future implementation.
The National Indigenous Sports Foundation, established in 2020, is dedicated to advocating for the health and wellbeing benefits of sport and improving outcomes for Indigenous communities through recreational activities.
The Summit will be held at Pullman Melbourne on the Park, with the 2024 NATSI Sport Awards concluding the events on the evening of 16 November at the MCG.
